Dear Patients:

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year. As we start 2012, we wish Laura and Habiba good luck and all the best as they go off on maternity leave. We hope they have a great year and we are already looking forward to their return in 2013. Of course, we look forward to Shveta's return from maternity leave in February of 2012.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your friendship and support. Your referrals throughout the year have made 2011 a great year and we look forward to an even better 2012.

As the weather turns cold and the season becomes festive our hearts are warmed by the smiles and good cheer of the people in our lives. Hoping to see you all in 2012.

All the best,

Dr. Ron Barzilay and staff (Celine, Habiba, Laura, Ashley and Shveta)

Are you brushing your teeth away?

A common problem that patients complain about is sensitive teeth. One of the avoidable causes of sensitive teeth that is truly 'in your hands' is aggressive brushing. Many people are under the misconception that brushing harder with a firm bristled tooth brush will better clean their teeth. This, coupled with an improper brushing technique (using a back and forth motion) can damage enamel, exposing dentin and resulting in tooth sensitivity.

Using a soft bristle brush, a proper technique, along with regular cleanings at our office, will be more effective at keeping your smile beautiful and healthy. We also recommend using an electric toothbrush: studies have shown that electric tooth brush users generally brush longer, with better results than those using a manual brush. The electric tooth brush will safely give your teeth that smooth clean feeling that you may be trying to achieve through your current aggressive brushing technique.

Have you begun thinking of your New Year's resolutions?

Let us add one that is easy to accomplish and will offer you health and wellness benefits that are far beyond the difficulty of keeping the resolution. Are you ready for it?

Drink more water in 2012!

Your body contains between 50-80% water and needs (6-8 glasses) of water per day to function properly. While most of our daily water intake comes from foods and sources other than simply drinking a glass of water, use this resolution to simplify your water intake. Proper hydration aids in weight control, toxin release, reduces the occurrence or severity of headaches, muscle aches and much more.

To help you remember to drink more water try attaching it to tasks you already do every day.
Here is a simple schedule to show you how to easily include more water in your day. You can also make your own whole-food energy bars instead.
